A range of evidence shows that arc volcanoes are underlain by complex magma storage zones within the shallow crust, and conditions within these zones strongly influence volcanic processes. Despite this we know relatively little about the long term conditions of magma storage. This talk will review some recent findings about the conditions of magma storage, focusing on thermal constraints and differences between volcanic eruptions that produce different size eruptions.
